Privacy Policy
How OTB handles your personal data (Datenschutzerklärung).
Plain-language policy.OTB is a free community app right now — no payments. This is written to be clear and to fit Swiss data rules; we'll have it professionally reviewed before we ever introduce paid events.
This policy explains what personal data OTBcollects, why, and your rights. It is written to align with Switzerland's revised Data Protection Act (revDSG); if you are in the EU, the GDPR may also apply. Effective date: 20 September 2026.
1. Who is responsible
OTB is operated by a private individual based in Zürich, Switzerland. For any question about your data, or to exercise the rights below, contact contact@otbchess.ch.
2. What data we collect
- Account: your email address, username, and password (stored only in encrypted/hashed form).
- Profile (optional): first and last name, location, country, language, and — if you play chess — your self-reported Lichess / Chess.com / FIDE ratings.
- Events: events you create, join, or express interest in, and messages you post in event chats.
- Essential cookies: a login session cookie so you stay signed in. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Usage statistics: privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics — aggregate page views, approximate region, and the site you came from. This sets no cookies and does not identify you personally.
3. Why we collect it and who we share it with
We use your data to run the service: to let you sign in, show your profile, connect you with events and other players, and keep the platform safe. We share data only where necessary to provide the service:
- Our hosting and database providers — to store and serve the site.
- Our email provider — to send you account and event emails (for example sign-up confirmation and password resets).
- Our analytics provider — for the privacy-friendly, cookieless visitor statistics described above (no personal profiles, no tracking cookies).
We do not sell your personal data.
4. Processing abroad
Some of these providers may process data outside Switzerland, including in the EU or the United States, under appropriate safeguards.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see below).
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- see the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- ask us to delete it (“delete my account” / “delete my data”).
To exercise any of these, email contact@otbchess.ch.
